The Sheikh CEO: Never Believe that Your Work is Complete

The book, "The Sheikh CEO: Lessons in Leadership from Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum", is written by Dr. Yasar Jarrar.

The fourth chapter is entitled, Never Believe that Your Work is Complete. This is a brief summary of Chapter Four:

Innovate or Perish
"...to be agile and adapt to the environment around us -local, regional and global.  We need to adapt to the new environment, renew our thinking and change our tools." -HH Sheikh Mohammed

Keep the Door, and Your Mind, Open
Not only does the Sheikh listen and gather ideas, he is also willing and open to changing his views should he hear something more convincing.  The Sheikh always approaches listening with an open mind.  He is not a leader who feels he is above the rest. (p. 123)

Nurture an Ideas Culture
"To take risks and fail is not a failure.  Real failure is to fear taking any risk." -HH Sheikh Mohammed

Change or Be Changed
"Change or you will be changed: leaders who neglect the good of their people will be forsaken.  Leadership is a service, not a gateway to privilege." -HH Sheikh Mohammed

The Customer is King
"Government is not an authority over the people, it is an authority for the people, and its main measure of success is the satisfaction and wellbeing of the people." -HH Sheikh Mohammed

Lessons in Leadership
1.  Innovate or Perish.
2.  Customer-Centricity is Key.
3.  Invest in ideas that will make your work obsolete or redundant.
4.  Learn something new every day.
5.  Keep an open mind and never stop listening.
6.  Never say never.
