The third chapter is about action. This is a brief summary of Chapter Three:
Results, not Reports
"The trust has been earned over the years through working and giving. This trust is our greatest asset and most important achievement." -HH Sheikh Mohammed
Consider It Done
"I learned from my horses that if you believe in something, push it all the way to the end. If you want a certain achievement, give it all you have, unless you are someone who is content with half an achievement or half a victory." -HH Sheikh Mohammed
Sheikh Mohammed's Deliverology
Traffic congestion was becoming a challenge in Dubai. A report was created, indicating that a toll system was not a good idea. Sheikh Mohammed decided to go ahead anyway, in a strategic manner. The result was that traffic flow improved with the toll gates. -synopsis of recall by Aisha Miran, Assistant Secretary General of the Executive Council. (p. 84)
Personal Accountability
"Taking a hands-on role leaves no doubt about my priorities in getting things done. This doesn't mean I micromanage or refrain from delegating responsibility. It just means that I push things along by staying involved." -HH Sheikh Mohammed
The Show Must Go On
"The positive leader does not see a crisis as the end of the world, but rather the dawn of a new horizon of innovation and achievement." -HH Sheikh Mohammed
Lessons in Leadership
1. Delivery requires discipline, and discipline comes from understanding that time is our most valuable, and non-renewable, resource.
2. Know when to quit. 'Fail fast' approach.
3. Make delivery personal.
4. Focus on the details and know what each report says.
5. Learn the power of a personal 'thank you'.
6. Prioritise ruthlessly and overwhelm your priorities with resources.
7. Never stop moving forward.
