#2 Where's the Washroom?: How to Transition Refugee Students into Canadian Classrooms

While this question may appear humorous to some, it is a critical question for refugee students when first arriving in Canadian schools.  Be sure to show the refugee student:

-where the washrooms are located

-how to close the washroom stall

-how to flush the toilet

-how to turn on the tap to wash hands

-how to dry hands, especially if a hand-drying machine is required

-how to return to class

-how to ask permission to leave class to go to the washroom

Refugee students may already know many of these steps, however, they may not know some of these steps and a brief demonstration is recommended.  This is where a peer-mentor is helpful!
